We’re proud to welcome The Shirley to our Magic City Collection — a stunning arrangement designed by Shirley herself during the Mother’s Day holiday. As a surprise tribute, we’ve added her design to our signature collection as a heartfelt way to ensure she’ll always be part of making Birmingham smile — a lasting tribute to the love and dedication she’s shared with her team & the community.
A Message From Shirley Carmack:
Each June, the Charity in Bloom is dedicated to the memory of Barbara Hogge — my dear friend, colleague, and often a mother figure — who passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on September 22, 2024.
I first met Barbara many years ago while working at Norton’s Florist. From day one, she was a bright light in our shop — warm, kind, and loved by everyone who knew her.
I never truly grasped how devastating ALS could be until Barbara’s journey unfolded. For years, she experienced unexplained symptoms while doctors struggled to find a diagnosis. It wasn’t until she began to lose her ability to speak and swallow that ALS was finally confirmed. By then, the disease had already taken so much — yet Barbara faced each day with extraordinary strength, grace, and unwavering determination.
Thank you to Cameron Pappas and the entire Norton’s Florist team for raising awareness of ALS and honoring Barbara by allowing me to share her story — she would be so proud. And thank you to our incredible community for your support and compassion as we shine a light on this cause that means so much to us.
