Why National Romance Month Is in August & Why It’s Important

August is one of the most Romantic Months of the year, and while you may be wondering why, the answer is simple. August is Romance Awareness Month! Oriented around Romance Awareness day on August 14th, Romance Awareness month was created by Eileen Buchheim to encourage couples to give attention to their relationship at all times of the year. Buchheim chose August 14th as Romance Awareness day because it falls six months after Valentine’s day. From a couples vacation to a dinner date to simply holding hands, you can express your love this Romance Month however you want! So join us at Norton’s Florist and honor Eileen with a creative and exciting Romance Month.

Ways to Celebrate Romance Month and Speak Your Partner’s Love Language

What’s your love language? If you know your partners, you can celebrate them this Romance Month by speaking their love language. Romance Month approaches this August, and there is nothing better than speaking your partner’s love language! Dr. Gary Chapman has defined the five love languages as quality time, words of affirmation, physical touch, acts of service, and receiving gifts. So, celebrate this Romance Month by speaking your partner’s love language with these creative and romantic ideas.

Leave Love Notes – Words of Affirmation

No matter what your days are like leaving notes of love can be a good and easy way to make sure your partner’s Romance Month is special. Leave notes on the bathroom mirror, in the fridge, by the coffee, and even on the steering wheel in the car. Romance via the written word is one of the oldest and best ways to show your partner how much they mean to you.

Enjoy a Long Weekend Away – Quality Time

A weekend getaway this Romance Month could be just what you need to unwind and spend some quality time with your significant other. Whether you go to a peaceful beach resort or explore a new location together, the trip should be about reconnecting and leaving behind the distractions of daily life so that you can remember why you fell in love.

Go Dancing – Physical Touch

One of the five love languages is physical touch, and one fun thing that you can do with your partner is to take them dancing. Whether it’s at home or out on the town, get those “feel good” endorphins going with some swaying, stomping, spinning, and swooning. Jam out to your favorite pop or sway to a romantic throwback; however you do it, make sure it’s about your love.

Send Flowers – Receiving Gifts

Gift-giving is all about showing your loved ones how much they mean to you. Whether it’s an experience for you both to share or a gift that means something special in your relationship. However, the best messages come from the language of flowers! Each petal, blossom, and stem is bursting with symbolism and romantic meanings. For example, a bouquet of red roses stands for passion, love, and romance, while daisies symbolize true love and new beginnings, and an alstroemeria represents devotion and support.

Tackle the Chores Together – Acts of Service

Another nice way to show your partner how much you appreciate them and to speak their love language is to take an initiative to help with the household chores. Start the laundry, dust, and tidy up before they get home. You can also give your partner a hand and tackle the chores together while listening to your favorite music and doing them together.

Plan a Weekly Dinner Date – All Five Love Languages

If you’re unsure of what your partner’s love language is, you can plan a weekly dinner date! Using dinner dates, you can be considerate and incorporate aspects of all five love languages. Cook them their favorite meal or make a reservation at their favorite restaurant. Include flowers or candles to brighten the mood and chat with them about the future, the past, and how much you love them.

Flowers can serve several purposes for making romance month special, and Norton’s Florist offers a wide variety to help you make this Romance Month memorable.
