By the middle of this century, it's predicted someone will develop Alzheimer's every 33 seconds. An estimated 5.5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease. The prevalence of this insidious disease is growing. It's currently the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S., and two-thirds of those afflicted with Alzheimer's are women (about 3.3 million). More than just dementia, Alzheimer's is a progressive disease that affects thoughts, memories, and language. Everyday activities suddenly become difficult to perform for those who have it. Most individuals with Alzheimer’s are cared for by family members, making this a disease that touches everyone in that person’s life. The Longest Day

As we welcome summer and its longer days, we are quickly approaching the Longest Day of the year. June 21st is the summer solstice, the day with the most daylight all year. It has also become the day participants of this worthy cause come together from across the world to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through a fundraiser of their choice.
